Ford Motor Company Fund’s flagship education initiative has been driving dreams since 2012. Ford Driving Dreams brings inspiration and educational resources, and has impacted more than 100,000 students from elementary to high school in California, Illinois, Indiana, Florida, Texas, Panama and Puerto Rico.

By embarking in unique collaborations with local partners at each market, the Ford Driving Dreams program is able to address education needs in the communities we serve.

Ford Driving Dreams adapts to local needs and includes book donations, reading parties, scholarships, school grants, motivational pep rallies and an essay contest in which thousands of students are invited to share their dreams.

Partners include Aspira, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Cuban-American National Council, LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Stars on the Rise, United States Hispanic Leadership Institute and United Way Panama.

Ford Driving Dreams was selected by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics as one of its "Bright Spots in Hispanic Education" for addressing high school dropout rates.

Motivational activities feature empowerment speakers who share what drives their dreams, challenge students to be resilient and pursue higher education. Students also learn about the essay contest and scholarship opportunities available to them.

The essay contest reinforces the importance of realizing what each individual's driving motivation is and how higher education can help them get closer to reaching their dream. In the essay, students write about: 1) What their dream is, 2) How their dream will positively impact others, 3) What inspires their dream, and 4) What do they hope to achieve during the school year to get them closer to their dream.

Ford Motor Company Fund and the Ford Dealers are committed to making education a priority by providing Ford Driving Dreams scholarships to high school students who attend schools in the communities where Ford operates. The scholarships are administered by the Cuban American National Council, LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Stars on the Rise, United Way Panama, and the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute.

Ford Driving Dreams expanded internationally by partnering with United Way Panama reaching middle school students from different regions in Panama. In the U.S., Ford also reached middle school students by partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County, Greater Sacramento, Lodi, Marin and Petaluma, Monterey County, Napa Valley, Silicon Valley, Sequoias and Tracy.

As part of the Ford Driving Dreams initiative, there is a great focus to promote reading at an early age. According to the American Educational Research Association, the ability to read by the third grade determines a child’s future. Yet, research shows that in some of the lowest-income communities, there is only one book per 300 children.

Ford Driving Dreams works to combat these numbers by providing thousands of new books to kindergarten and elementary school students. To date, 50,000 new children's books have been distributed in Michigan, Texas and Florida.
