Los Sanchez Water Supply Project
Water is only a connecting pipe away for many Los Sanchez residents in the Dominican Republic. This project intends to improve and expand the existing water system, installed by Harvard’s Engineers Without Borders, for 400 community members on 450 acres.
Reliable water quality testing will improve the health of community members. Besides replacing defective pipe, the project will provide clean water 24 hours a day. This will also start to balance the cost and prestige of private wells compared to use of mountain streams or buying water from wealthy community members.
The EWB incorporated local resources when building with valves, pipes, etc., so local maintenance is viable. The team also worked with the community to build a network of local government agencies to identify those who can assist the community after the system’s construction.
